I'm just sitting watching flowers in the rain

I've had this crimplene in my stash for the longest time. I found it in a local junk shop, it caught my eye immediately as I've got a vintage 1960s Marks & Sparks blouse in exactly the same pattern. I originally thought of making a pinafore to wear them together, but thought maybe not after putting them side by side, you can have too much!

I wasn't really inspired to use it for anything in particular, so put it away until an idea came but it never did. I've had the sewing bug recently though and really wanted to use it up, so turned to Cat's blog Sewing the '60s for inspiration. She's got a page listing all of her patterns, with a link to the post if it's something she's made which is such a great resource for when you're looking for something to do like me. As soon as I saw her Sally dress I knew that was the one, and a few days later the pattern arrived on my doorstep from eBay.

I had a fair bit of trouble with my sewing machine making this, but like most things it turned out to be a case of operator error. Still, it gave my seam ripper a good work out! I also couldn't make head nor tail of the directions for making the cuffs, so I winged it and lucked out. I'm really pleased with the final result! The fabric really suits the mod style of the dress perfectly. I especially love these little daisy buttons I found by chance when buying the zip, hovering around pretending to look at stuff while the assistant was busy with someone else. I was going to make some buttons out of the fabric to match, but I perfer the look of these, it's something a little different.

  1. I love that pattern and it made such a pretty dress! I imagine it must be a wonderful feeling to wear such a lovely dress that you made yourself. Also your blue eye shadow looks AMAZING!

  2. I love your blog! I grew up during the Sixties and Seventies so I adore fashion from that time. In fact, I bought a pretty handmade dress in Woodstock last year made from a Sixties pattern that looks very much like yours here. And it's great you enjoy vinyl records, as I still do. (Found you from Jessica's blog today.)

  3. Oh wow, you did an amazing job! The pattern is so pretty and the daisy buttons are a cute little touch too x

Your hair reminds me of Sailor Pluto from the anime Sailor Moon !

  5. I want this pattern - its SO cute!! The fabric is perfect and the buttons are a really cute touch xo
